Art Work
This artwork was created for a clients family cat Rascal. I chose this because in Egyptian culture, cats were sacred animals. Cats were not only protected by the people but by the law as well. If a human killed a cat, either on purpose or by accident, the person was condemned to death. A Roman representative who accidentally triggered the death of a cat was instantly hung by the enraged population. In a home where a cat or a dog died, the inhabitant were expected to grieve for them as if they were family. Both cats and the other sacred animals were carefully embalmed after death, and their bodies were buried in holy cemeteries. (Egyptian Cat, 2015) Our family feels much the same way about our cat as the Egyptian did. I created the car-touche with Rascals name and colored it with the colors for fertility and wealth. I have included the picture of the cat to show that this design is for our cat. On the cat’s chest you can see the ankh, which is the symbol of everlasting life and above the cat is the scarab, which is the symbol of rebirth.
